Food Insecurity is when there is a lack of food for every member in your household disabling them from living a healthy life. It can be for a long or short time.
Food insecurity occurs when you get laid off at work, when you are in an accident at work or your car needs maintenance. Then you are left to decide to buy food or pay your bills. It was estimated in 2018 that 1 in 9 people are facing good insecurity. This means that 37 million Americans including 11 million children were facing food insecurity.
If you are facing food insecurity you can have serious health complications. If your a child and you face food insecurity it can affect your ability to grow and learn.
Many organizations are helping to distribute meals to people who need them. Feeding America distributes to 200 food banks across the Unites States. The World Food Programme has distributed cash or food to 100 million people throughout 88 countries. The world food progamme has distributed 17.3 million nutrious meals to children.
You can also help fight food insecurity by donating to Feeding America or the World Food Programme. When you donate $1 dollar to Feeding America you help make 10 meals for 10 hungry people. If you donate $15 to the World Food Programme, the orangization helps a give a month supply of food to a hungry child.
You can also help by advocating for change. You can do a charity stream or create a fundraiser. Also you can volunteer at one of the food banks which Feeding America distributes to. 51% of Feeding America’s programs rely on only volunteers..
